$352 + 420lbs of donations to the Kawartha Food Share!!!
Cold weather can’t stop warm hearted DG community
They came from all over Ontario- Palmer Rapids, Burlington, Mississauga, Oshawa, Toronto and of course Peterborough. All had the same goal; helping a good cause while looking winter straight in the eye and laughing while playing a game generally considered to be a warm weather sport. The second annual Peterborough Ice Bowl Charity Disc Golf Tournament was a resounding success as twenty-nine fearless disc golfers braved the elements and helped raise $352 and 420 pounds of food for The Kawartha Food Share. The Ice Bowl theme “No Wimps. No Whiners” rang true as the elements threw all it had at the courageous crew, including flurries, howling winds and at times bitter temperatures. Homemade chili donated by several PDGC members helped to warm things up after the first 18 holes and the thoughts of a cold beer and a warm seat at The Montreal House afterwards kept everyone focused. After 36 holes, Toronto’s Kim Scott-Wood defended his championship from last year, taking top honours again in the advanced division. In the recreational division Chris T from North Bay was up to the task, while local women’s DG dynamo Jen Upton took the ladies division.
Special thanks to Doug Storey, Brent MacDonald, and Ryan Gorman for their chili contributions, to Chantelle Clarke for some tasty sweets, and Real Electrical for providing the generator to keep everything toasty. Big up to tournament prize sponsors Wildrock, Leather Cache, Benevolent Stranger, Clives Bar, The Wolf and all the PDGC crew who chipped in made this event an amazing kickoff to the upcoming 2011 season.
